Winter Storm Hunter Hits Southern Illinois

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Winter Storm Hunter arrived overnight bringing freezing rain, sleet and snow to the area.

Many roads around the were reported to be snow and ice covered, but road crews are out working to make travel conditions better. Interstate 57 seems to be in good shape. Watch out for the secondary and backroads as they may still have some snow and ice on them.

If you approach a snow plow, please give it plenty of room to clear the roads. For the latest road conditions statewide, go to gettingaroundillinois.com.

It’s best that if you don’t have to be out to just stay at home. But if you do have to go somewhere, be careful and make sure you have your emergency preparedness kit with you in case you get stuck and have to wait for someone to come get you out.

Many schools, businesses and some government offices closed today due to the weather.
