RALEIGH – The Village of Raleigh used the Illinois Bicentennial Monday to celebrate a new flag.
With the help of the Harrisburg American Legion Honor Guard, Raleigh retired the American flag that flew at the village’s community center and replaced it with a new flag. A new Illinois state flag was will also fly under the American flag.
Also at the community center Monday, the village donated its retired police vehicle to the county’s sheriff department. After shuttering the police department in Raleigh, Mayor Paul Bishop says that he’s glad to see the vehicle in use.
As for the sheriff’s department, Deputy Jared Campbell says the vehicle will fill a need.
