Southern Illinois Communities Receive CDBG Grants for Public Infrastructure

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced Friday the recipients of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Public Infrastructure.

Twenty-eight communities across the state will receive federal funds totaling $13.2 million.

These grants will help Illinois’ low-income communities undertake much needed public infrastructure projects such as water, sanitary system and sewer enhancements that become the backbone of future growth and economic development.

In our area, West Frankfort will receive $500,000 for construction of new PVC sanitary sewers. Broughton will also get $500,000 for replacement of water lines. Carrier Mills is getting $500,000 for construction of a stand pipe. Alto Pass will get $500,000 to construct a new wastewater treatment plant. Mound City will also receive $500,000 for sewer system improvements. Hardin County will see $500,000 to replace water mains and related appurtenances. Cairo will get $460,000 for sewer treatment plant/sewer pump station improvements.
