MT. VERNON – Bail has been set at $50,000 in Jefferson County Court for a 43-year-old Salem man extradited from St. Clair County Tuesday on a 2017 felony charge of identity theft.

Jonathon Lingo appeared in Jefferson County Court Wednesday on the Class 2 felony charge of identity theft of between $300 and $2,000.

A bill of indictment on the charge was filed against Lingo in March 2017 and a warrant was issued. However, he was sentenced in May of that year to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on a Class 4 felony conviction in Marion County for passing a bad check.

Lingo was released from prison in September and was ultimately arrested in St. Clair County. He was extradited on the warrant and returned to Jefferson County Tuesday.

He’s next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 29 for a preliminary hearing and first appearance with a court appointed attorney.
