Southern Illinois COVID-19 Update 5/21/20
New COVID-19 Cases reported in Clinton, Jackson, Washington, and Williamson Counties

Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department has been notified of two new positive COVID-19 cases within Franklin and Williamson county.

The two new cases of COVID-19 include the following: Williamson County:  Males: One in their 50’s  Females: One in their 40’s

These individuals are believed to have acquired the disease through either local contact with known cases or through transmission in the community (i.e. unable to trace back to a known source). Both are being placed in isolation.

To date, there have been a total of 55 laboratory confirmed positives in Williamson county and 11 laboratory confirmed positives in Franklin county of COVID-19. Of these positive cases, 40 have recovered in Williamson county and 10 have recovered in Franklin county.

Jackson County Health Department was notified in the past 24 hours of three Jackson County residents confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. The individuals are as follows:  Female – one pre-teen/teen, and one in her twenties;  Male – one in his thirties.

These individuals acquired the disease either through close contact with a known case, or through transmission in the community (i.e., unable to trace back to a known source). They are being placed in isolation.

To date, there have been 191 laboratory confirmed cases in Jackson County, including ten deaths related to the disease. Thirteen additional positive individuals have been released from isolation, in accordance with CDC guidelines, bringing the total released to 160 persons. Twenty-one active cases are currently being managed.

Southern Seven Health Department reports 3 new recovered cases of COVID-19 in the Southern Seven region.  All three individuals are from Pulaski County.   Currently, there are 71 individuals from the Southern Seven region who have recovered since the start of the pandemic in the United States.

The Clinton County Public Health Department on Tuesday reported another death from the coronavirus.

Health officials also reported six new positive test results in Clinton County residents, bringing the total number of positive cases of county residents to 168. The latest death brings the county total to 16 fatalities from COVID-19.

To date, 821 Clinton County residents have been tested for the virus, with 653 testing negative, 76 are on home quarantine, six are hospitalized, and 70 have been released from quarantine.

A woman in her 90s has been confirmed as Washington County’s latest lab-confirmed COVID-19 case.

The woman was reportedly in close contact with a person who tested positive for the virus and is now isolated at home with moderate symptoms.

That makes three active cases of Covid-19 in Washington County, with another 15 being released from isolation.

Marion County health officials report that to date, 1,093 residents have been tested, 50 people have positive, 1,043 negative and 43 recovered
Jefferson County has no new cases to report in the last 24 hours.

To date, 102 Jefferson County residents have tested positive, two are currently in isolation, 86 have been released from isolation, and 1,042 have tested negative.
